Credit billing systems rely on regular and accurate meter readings from all properties connected to the heat network. Readings must be remotely collected from properties and transmitted off-site using web-based technology. This is known as an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system.

How it works - Installer and M&E considerations

• Wired M-bus solution allowing for fully open protocol solution,
  • Where wired M-Bus data networks do not exist – typically in the case of a retrofit solution or where one cannot be accommodated within the design of a site - radio-based alternatives provide an option for M-Bus data collection from within the properties.
• Credit billing systems rely on regular and accurate meter readings from all properties connected to the heat network. Readings must be remotely collected from properties and transmitted off-site using web-based technology. This is known as an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system,
• Heat meter (mains or battery powered) to be installed within each property with a wired M-Bus output,
• A site-wide cabled network, called an M-Bus network, which connects all the heat meters back to a single location such as the plant room. Preferred topology is Star.
• A site datalogger at the point the M-Bus network converges to record the readings from the heat meters on a daily or more regular basis,
• A high-grade router and connectivity to a fixed IP (static) broadband connection. This provides the remote connectivity to site in order to collect or transmit heat meter reading data used in the billing process.
