System Design

Ensuring that the energy systems designed for a site meet the site loads, mitigate risks inherent in energy, and provide the best possible financial returns.

Metering & Billing

Providing ongoing customer-focused support through meter reading and billing services for credit and prepayment meters.

Site Management

Total peace of mind through ongoing maintenance from plant room to individual homes, we can tailor a package to suit.

System Design

The correct design of energy assets can reduce costs, reduce risks and improve profitability. Energy assets on site may range from combined heat and power units producing heat and electricity, gas and biomass boilers, photovoltaic panels, solar thermal panels and a heat network with thermal storage. Many of these have high capital costs and long asset lives, so it is important to make the right decision from the outset.

Key questions to consider when designing the energy network include:

1 What carbon compliance are you targeting and does it, or could it, change over the life of the project?
2 Have you sufficient capacity to meet peak thermal demand with some redundancy?
3 How are you managing redundancy and do your unit sizes give sufficient flexibility and modulation to meet intermediate demand levels efficiently?
4 Have you selected plant equipment to maximise government incentives such as the renewable heat incentive, feed in tariff, etc…
5 Have you chosen a heat lead or electricity lead strategy for your technical design?
6 Have you chosen appropriate energy prices when forward modelling costs and revenues?
7 Have you considered the risks of a change in energy prices and particularly the difference between electricity price and your CHP fuel price?
8 Are you modelling demand and prices to an appropriate level of granularity, bearing in mind that thermal demands vary across the day and electricity prices vary at least threefold during the day?
9 Have you considered how regulations might change and to what extent you have designed a system that could incorporate change?
10 Have you considered customer service standards and how they might impact on your business, such as: do you have the space to retrofit a prepayment heat meter if you intend to use prepayment to manage customer debt?
11 How are you formulating energy tariffs?

Using our energy and technical expertise, we help you design an energy system which takes into account technical and commercial risks and benefits to design the most appropriate system for your site.
